Data for the New World of Work.

Hybrid work makes office space planning difficult. Companies often rent too much space or use the wrong layout. We replace estimates with anonymous, hard facts.

Ghost Meetings

Rooms are booked in the calendar but remain empty. Colleagues can't find a spot even though the office is half empty.

Real-time Occupancy Sensors

No-shows lose their booking (auto-release in calendar).

"Stuffy Air"

High CO2 levels in meeting rooms lead to fatigue and poor concentration.

Smart Air Quality Monitoring

E-Ink displays with traffic light systems signal ventilation needs or control the HVAC system.

IT Security

The IT department doesn't want hundreds of IoT sensors on the sensitive corporate WiFi.

Dedicated LoRaWAN Network

Physically separated from the corporate network. Maximum security.

Infrastructure for New Work.

merkaio core

Deployment of Milesight workplace sensors. Discreet, battery-powered, and installable without cable routing ("Peel & Stick").

merkaio ops

We operate the LoRaWAN building network. We handle gateway updates and battery management so your facility managers don't have to.

merkaio dev

We integrate sensor data into your existing world: Microsoft Exchange, Outlook, Teams or booking systems. We build the middleware that releases rooms in the calendar.

Sensors That Don't Disturb.

Milesight VS121 / VS133

Milesight VS121 / VS133

The AI Counter

For meeting rooms & cafeterias.

  • AI-powered people counting (up to 98% accuracy per the manufacturer). Detects whether 1 or 8 people are in the room.
  • Privacy: Processes images locally on chip and sends only anonymous count values. No video!
Milesight AM319

Milesight AM319

The Ambience Monitor

For open space & offices.

  • 9-in-1: Measures CO2, temperature, humidity, light, noise (HCHO/TVOC optional).
  • Design: Modern E-Ink display shows employees air quality directly (smiley/traffic light).
Milesight WS202 / VS34x

Milesight WS202 / VS34x

The Desk Tracker

For desks & phone booths.

  • PIR (infrared) or ToF (laser) detects whether an individual workplace is occupied.
  • Mounting: Simply stick under the desk.

From Sensor to Decision.

Visualized in Grafana or as a custom app by merkaio dev.

  • Heatmaps

Which zones in the office are "hotspots", which are "dead corners"? (Important for renovation planning).

  • Cleaning Planning

Usage-based cleaning ("Smart Cleaning"). Restrooms or rooms are only cleaned when they've been used.

  • Live Kiosk

A screen at the entrance shows where free spots are available.

Ghost Meetings

Privacy by Design.

We know that sensors in the office are a sensitive topic. Our architecture is works council compliant:

No Cameras

We use infrared, laser, or anonymized AI counting. No faces are captured.

No Personal IDs

We measure "Occupied/Free" or "Number of People". We don't know who is sitting there.

Separate Networks

Sensor data doesn't flow through your internal network.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The system is strictly designed for space management, not employee monitoring. We detect whether a desk or room is occupied, but never by whom. No ID cards are scanned, no smartphones tracked, and no faces stored. The data is completely anonymized. We're happy to provide technical documentation for discussions with your works council.
No. The Milesight VS121 sensors use optical AI chips, but image processing takes place exclusively locally on the device. The sensor counts "heads" and immediately discards the image. Only a pure text dataset is transmitted (e.g., "Number of people: 4"). No video stream or photo ever leaves the device.
Yes. Through the "Privacy by Design" principle, no personal data is collected in the first place. Since no individuals are identifiable, the pure usage measurement of rooms and furniture typically doesn't fall under the critical areas of GDPR. Our cloud servers are also located exclusively in Germany/EU.
No, and that's a key security advantage. We build a parallel, physically separated LoRaWAN network. The sensors communicate encrypted with our gateway, which sends data to the cloud via cellular (4G/LTE) or an isolated guest VLAN. Your internal IT infrastructure remains untouched and secure.
Installation is minimally invasive ("Retrofit"). Since almost all components are battery-powered, no cables need to be run. Desk sensors are stuck under the desk surface, room sensors are screwed or glued to the ceiling. A typical office floor setup is often completed in a single weekend without disrupting ongoing operations.
Battery life depends on the transmission interval, but with typical office use it ranges between 3 and 5 years. As part of merkaio ops, we proactively monitor the battery voltage of all devices. We notify you in advance before a battery is empty, or replace it as part of a maintenance contract.
Yes, this is one of the strongest use cases. Via merkaio dev, we connect IoT data with your calendar system (Microsoft 365 / Exchange). The logic: If the sensor still reports "0 people" 15 minutes after the meeting starts, the system automatically releases the room in the calendar. This massively increases room availability.
Yes. Our multi-sensors (e.g., Milesight AM319) measure CO2, temperature, humidity, light, and noise levels in addition to occupancy. The E-Ink display on the device gives employees direct feedback (e.g., smiley or traffic light) when ventilation is needed. This demonstrably increases concentration and reduces sick leave.
Yes. We can use the data to save energy. If an area (e.g., a floor on Friday) is unoccupied, we can reduce heating and turn off lights via interfaces to building management systems (BMS) or retrofitted LoRaWAN thermostats.
Office space is expensive (rent, heating, cleaning). If our analysis reveals that you need 20% fewer desks or can sublet an entire floor, the IoT infrastructure often pays for itself within a few months. You also save costs through needs-based cleaning ("Smart Cleaning" - only clean what was used).

Let's discuss your infrastructure. Digital and on-site.

Whether it's IoT platform development, hardware selection, managed hosting for ChirpStack, ThingsBoard, Grafana or NetBird VPN, or migration from a self-hosted setup - we'll find the right solution for your use case. Book a free 30-minute consultation, no commitment required.
